Benefits of Grinding your Concrete Floor

When it comes time to get new flooring for your warehouse, which usually happens when the old floor cracks or scratches, you might want to have it ground before the application of new industrial floor paintings. This is because having a smooth surface to work on with will allow the new floor to be applied more easily; this process is also done to roughen up old coverings, like paint, which increases the adhesion of a later coat of paint.

Even if you don’t intend to add flooring on top of your concrete, having it ground will offer you plenty of benefits you wouldn’t have any other way:

Polishing a Concrete Floor

After grinding, a concrete floor becomes highly resistant to foot traffic, and other kinds of wear (caused by heavy machinery, for example). They’re more difficult to chips and cracks and less likely to lose colour during their lifespan, so they don’t need to be regularly waxed or resurfaced. A ground concrete floor can stand for a very long time in a high traffic environment and still look its best, like it was recently polished.

This process also prevents the accumulation of dust particles, and is highly resistant to water as well. Polished concrete is also flatter and more resistant to abrasions.

A ground concrete floor can be used for a wide variety of industries. For example, it’s suitable for warehouses, retail stores, office buildings, showrooms, and many more. It’s a versatile process that can even be used for residential purposes, including private properties or restaurants.

Machinery Polishing Concrete

After concrete floors are ground, they become more hygienic, which leads to an improvement of the working conditions in your business, as employees will not get sick as often. This ‘sanitation’ perk comes from the fact that ground concrete floors prevent the development of mould and mildew and don’t allow bacteria and other impurities (which might affect not only your employees’ health, but also yours) to accumulate or grow. This increased benefit to hygiene is also useful for hospitals and veterinary clinics, for example, since it allows for more sanitary conditions and, thus, prevents the spread of diseases and infectious bacteria.

After the grinding process, your concrete floor will have a glossy surface that is capable of reflecting sunlight, which means your business can reduce the energy bill if the artificial lights don’t need to be used as often. Coupling this reflection with regular cleaning practices, the concrete floor becomes more attractive and stylish, because the smoothness of the polish will be emphasized.
