Why Would You Need Floor Screeding?
Be honest, how many of you have ever even heard of floor screeding? Well, you certainly would have if your floor needed levelling off. Read on to learn more about what a screed is all about…
What is Floor Screeding?
At one time, a screed was simply a flat tool that was used to smooth concrete or level plaster. Whilst such substances will easily cover a surface, there’s a degree of difficulty involved in achieving an even layering, and this is where a screed – even a simple one – becomes invaluable.
However, over time the word ‘screed’ came to signify the top layer of a surface. Essentially, we’re talking about the layer of the material – say, concrete – that has any finishing techniques applied to it. This is pretty much the definition that the team at PSR Flooring is interested in.
Why Would You Want It?
Our floor screeds can be applied as either an upgrade to an existing floor, or as a means of levelling off an existing expanse of content. Although floor screeds are only the top layer of your floor, they can vary in thickness from between 3mm to 100mm. However, other than for levelling purposes, why would you need a floor screed at all? Well, here are a few more reasons for you to mull over:
- To make certain that your flooring has a professional finish.
- To enhance the durability of an existing expanse of flooring.
- To avoid the need for more complex grinding methods.
- Pigmented floor screeding can add to aesthetic value.
How Do We Do It?
Before we start to carry out the floor screeding process, we’ll embark on a vigorous ‘dust free floor preparation’ process, as this is one of the things that must be in place before any floor screeding is performed. Depending on the screed, the substrate of the floor must also be carefully judged. Aside from this, the process of priming and the like is very simple. Other companies might sometimes rely upon damaging and long-winded grinding techniques, but we at PSR Flooring promise not to.
Hopefully, you’ll now have more of an idea about what floor screeding is, but if you’d like to find out more, browse through our website, or be sure to get in touch with us today by calling 01226 382864.
