Get to Know Industrial Flooring: The Ultimate Flooring Jargon Buster (Part One)
We understand that the subject of industrial flooring can be quite confusing, especially when it comes to understanding some of the different services we provide.
Here at PSR Industrial Flooring, we are experts on the subject of flooring, and we offer services such as industrial floor coatings and repairs for a number of different industries. It’s because of this that we thought we would attempt to make the subject a lot of easier for those reading.
For those of you who find some of the terminology surrounding industrial flooring a little or a lot confusing please take a look at our glossary of terms below.
Acid Etch is when acid is used on concrete as a way to open up its pores and prepare it for its next treatment. It allows for the reaction of a dilute solution of hydrochloric acid to the surface of the concrete, which is then washed away with water. It removes the top surface to reveal a tougher looking exterior.
Floor coatings can be used for new or existing floors, but are generally applied to floors that are in need of a bit of a makeover. They are highly durable and extremely resistant to damage. It’s a cost effective solution that can be used instead of investing a lot of money in replacing concrete flooring.
When wanting to update or level out existing flooring, floor screeding is the best solution. It can ensure a quality finish and durability, and can be used internally and externally. It can be laid from anything as little as 3mm thick, right up to 100mm. It essentially means the top layer of a surface, such as concrete, that has finishing techniques applied to it.
Floor grinding can be used in both industrial and commercial settings, and is an effective way to save time and money. It involves levelling out floor problems, offering a new even floor. It’s a process that doesn’t cause more disruption, meaning it won’t affect your everyday running of your business. It can help remove old floor coverings, leaving a smoother surface for applying new flooring.
Joint repairs are required after flooring has suffered from a construction joint failure, something that is common when it comes to industrial flooring. Replacing the floor joint is a quick and effective process, which is done by cutting and breaking out the damaged area and filling with specialist repair mortar. The joint is then cut back through, and sealed with specialist sealant.
Resin flooring is flooring that has enhanced chemical resistance, and is extremely easy to maintain. It’s very popular for industries that require hardwearing and long lasting flooring, such as catering, healthcare and offshore. It’s available in a number of different specifications, including water based and solvent free. It’s always important to get professional advice when choosing the resin flooring that is appropriate for your individual work place.
