How to Prevent Chemical Attack
At PSR Industrial Flooring we provide a range of options to help you protect your floor in order to experience the longevity you and your floor deserve. There are many aspects of working in an industrial setting that mean that you are likely to experience levels of wear and tear, from trucks moving in and out to consistent footfall, but what about chemical attack?
We have mentioned chemical attack several times in our blogs related to the causes of depreciation, but never fully defined it. Chemical attacks can cause long term damage to your flooring when said-surfaces continually come in contact with corrosive and aggressive materials. If you leave your floor unprotected, then you risk your floor deteriorating, which then has safety implications; it can become a trip hazard and even become depreciated to the extent that machinery passing over it can become damaged, particularly if it travels that way repeatedly.
Utilising a resin flooring system is one of the best ways you can protect against chemical attack. They offer an incredibly strong coating which goes on top of the concrete. As a result, they not only help to block against chemical attack, but can bear the weight and repetitive travel of heavy plant equipment and machinery. Through doing so, the epoxy coating prevents chipping or cracking, offering an efficiently smooth and aesthetically pleasing flooring solution.
Urethanes are another solution to the prevention of chemical attack. Like epoxy coatings, they act as a further layer which sits on top of the concrete flooring and are highly resistant to the erosive qualities of chemicals such as solvents, bleach and medium strength acids. Much like an epoxy coating, they are easy to maintain and keep clean. You can even coat your epoxy coated concrete flooring with a urethane coating in order to double-prevent against the threat of chemical attack.
The unfortunate thing with chemical attacks is that they can be fairly commonplace, particularly within certain industries, so it is always a good idea to prevent against them. However, it shouldn’t be forgotten that a concrete flooring solution is still an incredibly durable answer to a large range of industrial settings. So if you are considering a flooring system that promises to stand with you long into the future, give us a call.
