Winterproof Your Warehouse This Winter!
Winter is a beautiful season of frosty mornings and soft snow falls. With Christmas on the horizon and New Year not too far behind it, this truly is the season to be jolly… until the freezing temperatures start damaging your warehouse.
There are many ways you can protect your warehouse this season, but short of wrapping your building in a layer of insulated bubble wrap, here are a few, cost-effective key ways to survive the winter weather.
Keep in the Heat
You could spend hundreds insulating the walls of your warehouse, or you could pay particular care and attention to where you’ll be losing the most heat; your windows and doors.
It’s common for warehouses to have the minimum amount of insulation possible but, when it comes to protecting your stock from sprouting icicles, every little helps. Your dock doors, depending on how large your warehouse is, may be huge. These are a great cause for heat loss in your warehouse. If you can see daylight around the top, base and sides of your door, you’re losing heat and money. The same can be said about your windows. Weather stripping kits are perfect for filling in these gaps, though if you want a more permanent solution, why not invest in sturdy double glazed windows and insulated dock panel doors?
Love Your Pipes
Pipes in a warehouse can cause a lot of trouble if they aren’t taken care of throughout the colder months. Before, during and in the weeks after winter, make sure to check you have no leaks or blocked pipes.
Leaking pipes can drip water onto your reliable warehouse floor which, if left to its own devices, can sink into tiny grooves in your floor, freeze and start the long, odious task of freeze thaw. Before you know it, you’ll not only have a beautifully frozen pipe, but you’ll also face the cost of repairing a cracked floor.
Keep Your Air Circulating
We know that warm air rises which, when you’re blasting the heat in your warehouse, is why you may not be able to feel anything. Help keep your warehouse snug and warm by making sure your air fans are functioning properly.
To save some pennies during winter, why not segregate your warehouse so that you can keep the sections of your warehouse most in need of heating warm, without wasting energy heating the entire building!
